This month, in addition to regulars John M and John A we were joined a few new faces.
We had Peter H, a confident young man with his eyes set firmly on being an instructor,
work colleagues Roger, Jack and Dave and lifelong friends Guy & Norman.
Of the newcomers, all but one had purchased their own rods which showed that they were serious. Jack was so keen to crack on that it was almost mid day before we noticed that his rod still had cellophane on the handle!
The mornings casting session went well with everyone improving considerably.
Our excellent lunch was served only by Becky as Shaun was on his way to Iceland (the country not the shop) to fish for Salmon.
In the afternoon fishing session the three Fishcateers Roger, Jack and Dave, stayed fairly close to each other and enjoyed some light inter-colleague ribbing whilst the banter between the Chuckle Brothers, Guy & Norm had more of an edge to it. The Fishcateers each selected a fly form one of Rogers 19 immaculately arranged and hitherto untouched fly boxes and instantly connected with fish. Peter went for his much loved Oakey Dokey and the Chuckle brothers opted for small dries. The Johns too were quickly into fish on buzzers and CDC emergers.
Norm would have been top rod but for his strange compulsion to perform an except from Riverdance whenever he hooked a fish.
Guy was much more reserved and quietly set about catching more fish than his mate, on his first ever fishing day.
I lost count of the fish caught today and everyone had some good sport even though the fish seemed to alternate between fickle and frantic! Overall we, enjoyed good conditions, good humour and good company.

As one half of the Chuckle Brothers I would like to say a huge thank you to both Steve and Trevor for a fantastic day. I myself had until that day never fished before, and what an entertaining introduction to the sport of fly fishing it was. The coaching was excellent, humour even better and the prize sublime. The lunch was plentiful with a smashing homemade soup as a starter, thank you Becky, and of course the entertainment (Steve & Trev) continued throughout, so much so that both my compadre and I will be returning in October for a another session (god help em!!!).
