A full house for this months CTD endured one of the most difficult and frustrating days I have ever experienced on the Chirk pools. The weather was ‘unsettled’ to say the least switching regularly between bright sunshine and flat calm and torrential rain and swirling winds. Not the easiest introduction for our 3 Newbies. Steve, Robert & Mike
Regular John A brought his ‘imaginary friend’ Steve who was sporting a tan second only to my own. Both Robert & Mike, the other newcomers, had been given HeyDay gift vouchers by loved ones. Todays other attendees were returning duelling father and son Paul & Joe, laid back father and son Alan & Jon D, ‘double handed’ Phil and recent regulars George, John O and John M.
As usual the morning session focussed on casting and we disbanded around 12.30 when the aroma from the barbecue started to waft over the lake. It was then that it started to rain for the first time and fishery owner Shaun did an impressive job of tending the ‘barbie’ whilst erecting the Gazebo with the assistance of his friend Albert.
The fishing after lunch was tough as the fish were as unsettled as the weather. No single fly pattern stood out today. Buzzers, Damsels, Montana’s, Bloodworms and PTN’s all took fish sub surface but whatever the fish were taking near the surface remained a mystery. Those who didn’t catch today should take comfort from the fact that it was a difficult day.
The next CTD is scheduled for August 2nd. All are welcome!

Excellent day out with good instruction and advice from both experts. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere throughout. The meal was superb and high compliments are well deserved for the two master chefs and their daughter for looking after us so well. A great day out and I do recommend that people give it try. Thank you. Mike Bowden.
