The Rose family make a point of doing a family activity once every month. For their July get together, they had decided to try fishing at Chirk Fishery. With the family spanning 3 generations and ranging from 6 years of age, it was going to be hectic. For their day out, 12 of them wanted to fish and more were set to join us for lunch so fishery owner Shaun was going to be busy too!
In the morning session, the adults learned how to cast a fly rod and the kids got busy helping me collect insects from the river and the lakes before having a go at casting too.
Shaun’s lunchtime BBQ of bangers, burgers and drumsticks went down well… and very quickly and it wasn’t long before we were all fishing.
It was young Cole, one of the visiting family members from the USA who showed his UK family how it’s done by catching the first fish on a dry fly! Bringing up the rear was Grandad Rob who waited until the last few minutes to record his first capture, for which he received a special round of applause.
The junior section had no such problems catching with everyone catching fish on tackle specially adapted for the kids. It was great to see a family not only making time for each other but also introducing the younger generation to the wonders and beauty of the the countryside. It looks like they had fun too!
