As this months CTD wasn’t fully subscribed, Steve and I had a little more time to really concentrate on the individual requirements of the attendees. Husband and wife George and Janet wanted to improve their dry fly casting, John ‘A’ and John ‘O’ wanted to work on their single and double hauls, Phil concentrated on developing his double handed skills with Steve and Barbara just wanted to fish! Everybody made huge improvements during the morning session.
Lunch was particularly popular as Becky treated us to Chilli and a very well received Salsa dish, the recipe for which she kept very close to her chest. Jules has virtually retired from waitressing now and is instead focussing on crazy golf as a possible future career, forcing her father Shaun to take her to LLangollen for a few holes.
After lunch we Set about trying to catch a few fish. Big Mayfly patterns brought a few fish up but it was the Disco Damsel and the Shuttlecock that did the most damage. After taking some stick about a recent Maggot fishing trip to Scotland, Janet landed her first fly caught Rainbow trout on the rod that her husband George had so spectacularly christened at the last CTD. Not to be outdone, George showed that a classic fly fisherman can use any rod and promptly caught on his third cast. Phil showed his versatility by switching to the single hander for the afternoon and bumped a few off at long range. His wife Barbara claims to have caught a brace on the other lake but as nobody witnessed them, they don’t count! John ‘O’ was again top rod with his slightly underdressed Disco Damsel and John ‘A’ suffered the same fate as Phil, tempting a few fish but not quite managing to get them into the net. Well done to all! Another good day.
