The Heyday Fly Fishing School hosted its first official Chirk training day on 27th June and what a great day it was. A full house turned out to fish this beautiful water and as usual, there was a good mix of abilities. The attendees were divided into groups of complete beginners and those with some experience of fly fishing and the morning session was spent developing the groups individual requirements.
Both Steve and Trevor were kept on their toes as individuals developed their roll casts, overhead casts, single and double hauls and double handed casting techniques.
Shaun and Becky Coady our hosts at Chirk fishery, provided an excellent barbecue lunch and their 7 year old daughter Jules proved to be an accomplished waitress! A relaxed atmosphere saw the attendees swapping stories, ideas and flies in the glorious Welsh sunshine!
After lunch it was down to the serious business of catching fish. The group was issued an earlier challenge to think about their approach before just tying on a tried and tested fly pattern. This meant taking into account the contents of that mornings kick sample and their environment. The group did extremely well to catch a total of 19 fish on an afternoon that saw many changes in the weather conditions.
